Don't Be A Victim To Locksmith Scammers

Avoid falling a victim to individuals posing as legitimate locksmiths. The scammers generally overcharge for services, perform unskilled work and prey on people in vulnerable emergency lock-out situations.

Tips On Hiring A Reputable Locksmith

  1. Look closely at the ad to see that the business name is clearly indentified.
  2. Where is the business actually located (when you make what you believe to be a "local" call, you could actually be connected to a call center out of state.
  3. Before giving your address or location ask the company for theirs.

Questions To Ask Locksmith Company

  1. How long have they been in business?
  2. How long have they been operating in that specific location?
  3. Are they licensed and Insured?
  4. Do they have any certifications?
  5. Ask for a Firm Price (most legitimate locksmiths will give you a Firm Price over the phone if you are in a lock-out situation.

Once The Locksmith Arrives

  1. ASk for indentification - Drivers License, Business Card, Locksmith License, and Invoice.
  2. Ask to see an invoice. Check to see if the name and information match the business card.
  3. Expect the locksmith to ask you for indentification as well. They need to ensure you are the legitimate owner.
  4. Has the estimate that you received over the phone, changed?

NEVER SIGN A BLANK FORM AUTHORIZING WORK AND DO NOT PAY FOR ANY SERVICE IN ADVANCE.

Once you have found a reputable locksmith that you can trust. Keep the company's name and contact information in your wallet or program it in your phone for future reference and for recommendation.
